Today, we are beginning the series titled Into The Block where we interview fellows from Bridge Academy about their experiences and what they think about how we are progressing as a community.

Salil Gautam

Here we go:-

1. Hi Salil, firstly, tell us about your experience at Bridge in one word?

That word would be “Enriching”.

2. Now, let’s talk about how things went about your project? What did you build during your three months here at Bridge? Did you perform to your expectations or you think you could have done better?

I built an Application called as Gaia Stats.

Aim — To provide users with a interface to manage files store on gaia storage.
Features —

1. Uploading Interface for Files
2. Downloading Interfaces for Files
3. Visualization on the basis of files formats and total disk size occupied by the files on gaia

Tech Stack —

1. React
2. Blockstack.js
3. Gaia Storage

I was successfully able to complete the scope of functionalities which I had decided with my mentor. Enhancing the UI part was something which I could have done better.

3. How does the road look like going ahead for you? What are you planning to achieve in the next 6 months?

I will be graduating in June 2019 from Army Institute of Technology, Pune in Computer Science Engineering. I have a keen interest in Data Science along with Blockchain, so I look forward to explore the synergy between both the fields in the next 6 months.

4. How did you feel about the mentor support?

Mentor support is quite strong and also easily accessible at Bridge. It was easy to reach out to them using office hours. My mentor helped me define scope for my project with respect to the span of 3 months and also suggested Tech Stack, bolierplate UI to start with.

5. What’s that one thing you’d like to see change in the Blockchain Tech scenario?

I think there has to be a change in the perspective of people how they perceive Blockchain as a entity/buzzword of just investment with all the new ICOs coming up daily. They need to realize that the real potential lies in the core technology underlying it then only more products focused on Blockchain Tech might emerge. Time is to focus on building new Blockchain Tech projects, instead of blindly holding cryptocoins and waiting for the price to go up.”Leave HODL, it’s time to BUIDL”.

6. Which project do you think currently has the best team out there?

In my opinion, Blockstack has a great team as well as a very active community participating in Slack, GitHub and Forum. I got a chance to be a part of it due to the Bridge Program and even my capstone project is built using Blockstack.js .

7. If you were to invest $1M in crypto startup out there, which one would you choose and why?

Numerai would be it. It is a new kind of hedge fund powered by a network of anonymous data scientists that build machine learning models to operate on encrypted data and stake cryptocurrency to express confidence in their models. I have been part of the weekly tournaments in the earlier time, they are a good way to earn for your skill in Data Science in an ecosystem backed with Blockchain Tech .
