Hospitality is rooted in spirit and spirituality: We’re all broken, suffering, and struggling. So we must renew and heal toward wholeness.

Our goal? A recovery — or reordering — that makes us better than ever. My hospitality nightmare sums up this journey: from vacation planning to unexpected conflict and unimagined joy.

The spirituality of hospitality is weaved into every destination

Hospitality is a spiritual term. Its original meaning: making others feel “well taken care of.” Being hospitable is an essential gift, leading to the following:

  • Our communal desire to be welcomed, wanted, and needed: joining with and helping others, sitting and walking beside them, helping each other — or just breaking bread, enjoying learning from each other.
  • Our need to recharge. Why do we spend a third of every 24-hour day sleeping? Our essential need to refresh, renew and take time to dream and have nightmares, the “flight simulator hours,”…
