Our COO is tough. A New Yorker by origin, rumour has it she was raised by wolves in the Catskill mountains. It was a matter of time before she brought a tough new outlook to our product range.

We asked her to walk us through our new ‘Bulletproofs’, and explain the thinking behind the design:

“To build our Bulletproof, we started with our classic Washed Chino — a rock solid baseline. Then we tricked it out with the kind of sporting features that make it ideal for cycling — but great for any active lifestyle. Or even just a bad commute.

“For the cotton drill, we turned to our friends at Schoeller, a Swiss textile mill that has been turning out technical dripping fabrics for decades. They supply all the top sporting brands, and our orders are occasionally slowed down by things like *Russian military contracts*. This is frustrating — but we don’t want a DoS attack on our website, so we don’t make a fuss. The fabric we chose looks and wears like a great cotton stretch chino — but also has an awesome “3XDRY” finish. “3XDRY” is a water and stain repelling finish, which has the added benefits of keeping you cool and preventing sweat stains. Pretty much perfect for the London morning cycle commute.

“If you fancy a home experiment, pour some water onto the outside of the fabric. It will form little beads that slip right off. Pour water on the inside of the fabric and it will absorb into the material, but not show through to the other side. Let’s hope you never need that feature, eh?

“We also added some hi-vis trim — reflective binding inside the trouser legs and a hi-vis back pocket flap, that stows away when not in use, to ensure you stay seen at night.

“To finish, we’ve sewn a gripper tape on the inside of the waist band and a slightly longer back rise ensures the chinos sit perfectly in place whilst riding, whilst a concealed zipped side pocket protects your wallet or phone.

“By the way, it’s not bulletproof. Talk to the geniuses in marketing about that name.”
