Revisiting the timeless climaxes of Sportsfete ‘18

Sportsfete 2018 witnessed some of the most enthralling matches, with the valiant sportsmen displaying their exceptional talent on the pitch and putting in their hearts and soul to earn the trophy for their departments.

The finals being the ultimate drop of curtains on this remarkable journey were understandably the most intense, testing both mental and physical endurance of the participants. They gathered an overwhelming number of audience, not just from the participants' but from others too.

The atmosphere was like no other. The air was thick - as if it knew what was about to happen, the occasional silence tensing, yet the spirit of comradeship and sportsmanship echoing across the grounds of NIT-T.

Each sport differed on grounds of multiple aspects but none failed to rouse goosebumps.

Two such finals were the "Football (boys)” and "25m Backstroke (girls)"-

both of which were held within a span of few days along with other sports.

Football Finals of Sportsfete 2018 went down as one of the most unexpected ones. The sandy grounds of NIT-T readily welcomed the blood and sweat of the players who would be fighting for the glory of their department. The finals was played by the Mechanical Department versus the ICE Department.

Mechanical strikers kicked off followed by a back pass, which, as fate would have it, be one of the few times that the ball would remain on their half. They started their game strongly just as they had been doing for the entirety of the tournament. ICE defense tried its best to intercept the passes between the Mechanical players but hardly succeeded.

One could feel the tense atmosphere develop among the ICE supporters; every shot attempted by the strikers causing them a panic attack. On the other hand, the supporters of the Mechanical team cheered with all their might, keeping the spirit of the team high. Towards the end of the first half, the ICE defense seemed a bit chaotic but they managed to survive sparing no goal to the other side. Second half was yet again no different from the first one, with the Mechanical department dominating in possession. But it was that one surprising counterattack by the ICE team and a disastrous mistake on a Mechanical defender’s side that lead to the first goal of the evening. Wasting no time, the Mechanical team struck right back, trying to level the scores but nothing seemed to work out for them.

History was scripted - ICE took their crown as the football champions of Sportsfete 2018 with an unexpected goal!

Football matches have always been a crowd-puller in Sportsfete, with Finals being the ultimate nirvana. But let this glamour not blind you from the action that happens within the boundaries of the Swimming Centre.

At 6 in the morning, when some were packed in the room, the swimming centre was all set to witness the action. Participants lined up grabbing the start block, ready to prove their valor. The whistle blew and all the bodies turned into arched shapes, diving into the water, which for them would be an abode for the next few seconds. Breaths halted with the near synchronous movement of arms, all for a single goal. Adrenaline gushing in their blood, water splashing out between the lanes, and cheers of different departments echoing; the swimming centre was silent with prayers and booming with action at the same time. Kimaya, representing the MME department, took an initial lead and maintained it throughout, finishing 1st (22 seconds) followed by Suvini (31 seconds) from Architecture and Deeptha (33 seconds) from ICE department.
