Christmas Campaigns are Here! Just to Put a Smile on Your Face

It’s that time of the year again! This is when we all come together just to have a good time and feel the love — no competitiveness or sassiness between agencies to show who is best, just simply doing what they do best and giving everyone the joy they deserve.

Many brands, such as Harvey Nichols, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, and McDonald’s, have long histories of producing cheerful Christmas campaigns and activations that put their audiences in a happy place for the holidays.

Here are some of our favorite picks for this year:

John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners

Christmas commercials are very special. We are talking about the ones that do not specifically promote a certain service or product but more… a feeling.

John Lewis & Partners have always been known for their heartwarming commercials for Christmas, and this time they decided to go with a nice little bedtime story-like campaign of a little girl in a small village who is trying to help a baby dragon she befriended to get along with the villagers. The purpose of the story: Christmas is about togetherness and everyone is welcome despite their differences.

HP — Get Real

Making memories is a very important thing on Christmas, and we all love a good ol’ family photo framed every year so we can remember the good times, right? Well, HP knows the deal, and they decided to wake people up during that time of the year and — ironically — tell everyone to get off their phones/tablets and get into the Christmas spirit. But here’s the catch: it was very subtle and smooth how HP promoted their actual service of photo printing so these memories can be captured and kept forever.

What was so captivating about this commercial is its amazing execution with spot-on visual effects. All thanks to award-winning director Michael Gondry, who is well known for his dynamic short film and music video work.

Santa Girl | Macy’s Holiday Commercial

There’s not much we can say about the simplicity of the story in Macy’s Christmas campaign. You would expect big extravagant brands to do the most and go all out during that time of the year to show how glamorous they are, which is true, but they know better than that! Macy’s decided to go with a simple heartwarming story about a young girl who actually wanted to be Santa Claus for Christmas. This ad also encourages defying gender norms if you think about it. Wouldn’t you agree?

Christmas is where we are | Myer

If you notice in both Myer and Macy’s campaigns, the parents always want to make their kids happy on Christmas. What’s amazing about this ad is that it shows the realness of Christmas — by now many young kids would be aware that Santa is not actually real, yet still they want to believe because their parents make it a reality. In Myer’s campaign, we see that the father went all in to make sure his daughter gets the Christmas feel she’s been aching for. Wherever the family is, Christmas will always be there.

Amazon | Everybody Needs Somebody to Love

It wouldn’t be Christmas without singing and dancing and many cheers. Somebody HAS to show that in their campaigns. Yes, emotional stories and funny sketches are a trend in holiday campaigns, but let’s face it — we’re here for the SHOW!

Lucky Generals agency made sure to give Amazon the cheers they need to make everyone happy, simply by showing Amazon boxes with mouths singing and being carried around by different people.

The singing boxes have been a main tradition in Amazon’s campaigns, so we were so pleased to see them make a comeback.

Side note: We all know where you’re going to be shopping for presents. Let’s be real — it’s easier, faster, and much more convenient than going out and trying to find the perfect gift.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
