Here at the Sprawl, we know that local-level politics is anything but bland. Even so, it doesn’t hurt to spice things up.

The organizers of yesterday’s Killarney Great Soup Debate for Ward 8 get this. They put a fun twist on their debate: each candidate had to make and bring a pot of soup, which was sampled and voted on by the audience.

Sprawl reporter Skye Cunningham got the stories behind each candidate’s soup. (Candidate Karla Charest was ill and unfortunately couldn’t attend, organizers said.)

Chris Davis brought a chicken vegetable soup, complete with grown-in-Killarney veggies.

Carter Thomson brought chicken cabbage vegetable soup made by an employee at his Sunalta convenience store, One Way Foods and Deli.

Evan Woolley’s potato bacon soup won the contest, earning him the coveted Golden Ladle.

Cunningham livestreamed the entire forum for the Sprawl.
