An unorthodox experiment in regaining my health

It was a rough neighbourhood. The sort of neighbourhood where the schools have large squads of burly security teams to quell trouble when it arises (and it arises throughout every day).

Nevertheless, I felt safe there. As we walked through the crowded inner-city streets, I kept my wife close, pointing out the everyday dramas here and there as we went: a young kid running out of a sidestreet to pass the stolen PC monitor he was carrying to an accomplice; an expensive hi-tech vehicle being trashed.

All entertaining stuff.

I saw characters I recognised as if in a movie, somehow knowing before they did what their future held in store. A young man and woman in a crowded subway train, for example. Though they didn’t notice each other, I knew this was the first of several chance meetings between them that would lead to their falling in love and eventual marriage.

We walked across a sparse and patchy area of grass which was the closest thing this neighbourhood had to a park. People sat around in groups talking. As we approached a scattering of large boulders, the stones momentarily morphed into squat grey creatures surrounded by a magical aura. These golems plotted malevolent mischief and I guided my wife…
