I Briefly Connected with John Belushi
He was no dunce
Gilda Radner was not the only original “Not Ready for Prime Time” player I conversed with in 1981. (Please see the link below.)
No. Bill Murray did not crash my wedding or swipe potato chips off of my plate, although I’ve heard he’s been known to do that sort of thing.
I met John Belushi that year.
I spoke with him about six months before his death, inside the designer, Halston’s, apartment.
This was not the house depicted in the acclaimed Netflix Halston miniseries, starring Ewan McGregor, but an entire floor containing a fashion showroom in the lavish 50-story Olympic Tower, adjacent to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which had been developed by the shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.
The 21st-floor space had transparent floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Fifth Avenue.
Onassis had passed in 1975 and his widow, Jackie, was not at the party, which celebrated the director’s cut of New York, New York, along with marking Halston’s pal, Liza Minnelli’s birthday.
Liza’s leading man in the film, Robert DeNiro, was also there, as was the film’s director, Martin Scorsese, and his glorious then-wife, Isabella Rossellini, now nominated for an Oscar for Conclave.
