I Scratched My Mischievous Itch With a Social Media Experiment

Yesterday I posted a quick “Happy Birthday Jamie!” message on one of my WhatsApp groups. The floodgates opened — everyone joined in, sending their best wishes to Jamie.

Jamie responded, “Thanks, but my birthday isn’t until May.”

It was an experiment … of sorts. If you are wondering what the point was, I’m guessing you have a MAGA hat lined with tinfoil on a hook by your front door.

Seriously, it’s okay to have a laugh once in a while. Humour is a sign of a high EQ, especially if you can laugh at yourself. People with a high EQ focus on the positive, listen before making decisions, admit mistakes, show empathy, and deal with negative emotions without flying off the handle.

My experiment scratched that mischievous itch I often get when I’m cooped up in the house all day — the rain was evil yesterday.

Social media can be a lifesaver for some people. It can keep you current with what your friends are eating and drinking, and who they are with — when they are not with you.

It can keep you up-to-date with politics — it’s called ‘doomscrolling’ for a reason. And the constant notifications ensure you never…
