Running a Medium publication is like being a nursery school teacher — you get to meet some beautiful kids who make you laugh and often surprise you with their brilliance. But occasionally you have to wipe their bottoms and put up with a tantrum or two.

I run E³ — Entertain Enlighten Empower.

We have 370 writers, but only 30–40 publish regularly. People naturally slip into their comfortable slippers when they get home. Those who stomp in and out with muddy boots create a little more work, but they aren’t the most frustrating thing.

I’m not frustrated by writers who ask to join E³ and never submit an article — I only find that a little strange.

I’m not frustrated by the writers who come and go. In life, we have our family and friends. On Medium, we have our incestuous little circles and our favourites. There are no rules that say you can’t play the field. I’d encourage everyone to get feedback from a variety of publications.

I’m not frustrated by the chancers who think they can get away with submitting plagiarised content or articles created by AI; I remove them from the writing team and never…
