Is Bird Flu Our Next Pandemic?
Hasn’t COVID done enough damage?
Last week, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., head of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) canceled a contract with Moderna to develop pandemic vaccines, including a vaccine for bird flu.
Apparently, 1,1 million deaths in the U.S. from COVID — 18.2 million deaths worldwide — is not enough dying for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
For RFK Jr., another pandemic is not a bad thing. So it would seem.
The $590 million contract with Moderna to develop a vaccine against bird flu was signed in the last days of the Biden administration. When HHS cancelled it, the development stage of the vaccine was complete, and a preliminary trial on a group of 300 volunteers had been conducted. Additional trials on successively larger groups of people were being set up.
The results of the preliminary trial were positive: a 44.5-fold increase in antibody levels against the virus and every indication that the vaccine is safe.
