One of the Great Challenges of Justice
Everybody lies. Cops lie. Lawyers lie. Witnesses lie. The victims lie
Kenneth was caught in bed with his personal assistant when his wife unexpectedly walked in on them. She gasped with surprise.
A normal person might apologise profusely and beg for forgiveness. Not Kenneth. Without saying a word, Kenneth got up, calmly picked up his clothes from the floor, got dressed, tucked his feet into his moccasins and walked out.
Not once did he look at his wife. No goodbye, no apology, not even a sheepish smile.
His nonchalance was so bizarre that his wife stood in stunned silence — it’s difficult to say anything when incredulity swallows your tongue.
The assistant got dressed and disappeared out the front door.
Kenneth’s wife gathered herself, stomped from the bedroom into the living room, and spat at her husband, “How could you?” Then, showing her true indignation, she spewed the words, “… with that!”
Sitting in his recliner, Kenneth put down his newspaper and turned to his wife. A lamp illuminated his puzzled expression. He answered her question with a question: “What are you talking about?”
