Riverdance Is Still Amazing After Thirty Years
Witnessing the talent of the musicians and dancers was incredible
Last night we had the chance to watch an off-Broadway performance of Riverdance. Inspired by our trip to Ireland last fall, I bought my husband tickets to this traveling troupe for a Christmas present.
We live rurally now and have not visited a theater for a live performance in at least five years. It took an hour to get to the theater, and we left in plenty of time to have a quick dinner.
Parking was another unknown, as we attended this performance in a theater we had not been to before. But we found a parking ramp within two blocks of the theater.
I was pleased with our seats, right balcony, second row. It gave us a clear view of the stage, just right of the center. I wanted to be able to see the dancers’ feet as they moved to the rapid pace of the Riverdance music.
The show included two forty-five-minute performances with a fifteen-minute intermission. The dancing ranged from the frantic but synchronized pace of the original Riverdance score to slower, more ballet-type pieces and even folk dances.
The principal dancers were amazing! They were graceful but had the high energy needed for this show. The footwork was mesmerizing.
