Tax the Rich Tax the Rich Tax the Rich Tax the Rich Tax the …
What happened to the good old days?
Scotland is an ancient country, judging by the state of the roads.
There was a time when I could cycle my Raleigh Chopper up and down the streets, in and out of the parked cars, without putting myself in danger of falling head-first into a gaping hole. These days, potholes pepper the tarmac like a cratered moon.
Last month, after my old car went to the scrap heap, I bought a second-hand one. It’s new to me. I can’t afford a brand-new motor. The car tax (annual motor vehicle registration fee) should be £190. But our government is so skint they added an extra charge and I had to pay £600.
It’s a wrench to fork out that kind of money for a car that will likely do so little mileage that it will cost more for the road tax than gas. But, I’ve no choice but to pay for it and all the other taxes the government deems necessary to keep the country running.
Oh, to be rich!
If I were rich, I could find ways to dodge taxes.
I could (get my bookkeeper to) set up an offshore account, shell companies, trusts and foundations. These entities would pay a smaller rate of tax.
