The Best Pet I Never Had
She puts Fifi and Fido to shame
Most mornings, I wake up to my sweet girl, Penelope snuggled under a thicket right outside my kitchen window. Technically, she is in my neighbor’s yard, but I know she prefers me; I don’t have a yippy little dog.
Her thicket is on a rock wall, so we are almost at eye level as I drink my coffee. She might be alert, ears standing upright. She might be scratching her fur, one large back leg thrown over her head, or maybe she is hunkered down low to the ground, with her eyes closed.
She is the best way to start the day, a silent but delightful neighbor I have claimed as my pet.
Food and Vet Bills
She is the perfect pet if you take vet bills and pet food into account. I have not spent a single dime on her beautiful coat, teeth or paws. Yet, she is the picture of health and natural beauty. In fact, she has modeled for my painting and many a photo.
I have dropped carrot pieces and lettuce hearts under the thicket and on the stone wall, but she does not touch them. I am not sure what she eats, but obviously, my veggies are not her preference.
