Outdoor concerts in February are one of the many things I love about Florida. Last week Willie Nelson and his band did a concert in a local outdoor venue. A breeze kept us all comfortable.
The area was already bustling with people when we threaded our way to our seats an hour and a half early. Off to one side of the stage, street trucks sold everything from wood-fired pizza to tacos to beer.
There were people to watch, many wearing cowboy boots and hats, while the bustling crew set up the stage. At 7:30, the show began.
The opening act was a singer named Randall King (no relation). He was dynamic as he sang and ranged from one side of the stage to the other. I hadn’t heard of him before, but he had to have his chops to open for Willie Nelson. He warmed up the crowd. Before leaving the stage, he thanked Jesus, which was a nice touch.
After a short break, it was time for the star, Willie. His image was projected on two screens, one on each side of the stage.
My husband and I saw Willie perform at a Connecticut casino eighteen years ago. Back then, his sister, Bobbie, played the piano for him. He had stood on the stage and sung; his voice was still…
