Surviving the Trumpists with integrity intact
On Saturday, at his West Palm Beach golf club, Donald Trump was observed wearing a red baseball cap that did not depict his usual calling card of a hat printed with the MAGA catchphrase, “Make America Great Again,” but instead was adorned with the words, “Trump Was Right About Everything.”
I can only compare this hubristic narcissism to what was said yesterday at the state funeral in Washington for Jimmy Carter. Carter, a president who served humanity, never believed that he was right about everything, only that God was, and that an individual like himself could merely attempt to be as good as possible.
While Carter once lost the admiration of some fellow Evangelical Christians for admitting to experiencing “lust” in his heart, Trump has acted from lust with his body, through three adulterous marriages, yet seems to have a lemminglike following from Evangelicals. President James Earl Carter and his Rosalynn were married for 77 scandal-free years.
Carter, who lived until age 100, spent his post-presidential decades working on public health initiatives and building homes for the destitute. Trump, our only felonious president, has passed the last four years lying, cheating, self-aggrandizing, being indicted…
