All businesses change, and employees build defences around themselves — usually with expertise — to resist change.

Since the lifespan of companies is declining and human lifespan is increasing, this is generally a poor strategy.

Motivating employees to accept accelerating rates of change is a driver of growth.

Managing the What

Management is not just about managing things; it’s also about managing employees. Companies often hope leadership will evolve to adequacy, but hope is not an effective strategy. Understanding the importance of leading and motivating employees is crucial for the success of any business.

In complex industries such as telecom, specialists in networking, billing and operations have resisted change by using technology as a weapon to protect themselves. AI will change this not by replacing these specialists but by requiring them to use AI to become more productive — those who resist will be replaced.
