ANIMAL RIGHTS
Why Is the Law Failing Animals?
Animal rights is a lost cause unless we recognise this one thing
I used to think creating a vegan world was just a matter of time.
At first, I thought that if only I showed people what happens to animals behind the closed doors of factory farms, abattoirs, laboratories, and all the other places animals are exploited and abused, then they would immediately want to withdraw their support for these places.
Surely, their hearts would guide them.
When it quickly became apparent that this wasn’t the case, I figured I just needed to explain the logical arguments. I believed that if people were given the scientific facts around veganism then, as rational creatures, they would have to change.
I spent years talking to thousands of people about the health benefits of going vegan, the environmental necessity of switching to a plant-based diet, and the financial and economic benefits.
Even then, people remained steadfastly opposed to veganism.
I even researched religious teachings, particularly around Christianity and Buddhism, to show that not only did these teachings not mandate the killing and eating of animals, they actively encourage veganism.
