If you made a New Year’s resolution due to an emotional impulse, then this is your chance to withdraw it. Let’s start with an interesting observation.

Cultural aspect

I am afraid that in Hungary, we take the New Year’s resolution too strictly. In the Hungarian language, the New Year’s resolution translated back to English is:

New Year’s vow

A vow is a sacred, binding action people make to God, others, or themselves. Vows are usually tied to a specific goal, such as the beginning of a new life phase.

I researched, but I couldn’t find another country where the wording is so strong. Other nations speak of resolution, decision, promise, and intention.

In the case of New Year’s resolutions, the goal is to change or improve something in our lives. That’s why most languages use words related to it.

Key Factor: Commitment
