Your Grocery Store List for Monday or Tuesday Before Prices Go Up
Trump’s Tariffs are taking effect immediately
Prices for groceries imported from Canada and Mexico into the U.S. are going up 25 percent due to Trump’s tariffs, which he put in place by executive order on Saturday. Items from China will only be 10 percent more expensive (Elon Musk has business interests in China).
Buyers for grocery chains all over the U.S. will have to pay these tariffs when groceries from these countries arrive here, and their billionaire bosses will pass at least some of that additional cost on to you. Some bosses will increase prices over time; others will not be so kind.
So, as soon as you can, you may want to stock up on the following items, which are not often available locally or nationally and must be imported:
- Apple juice
- Baked goods
- Barley
- Blue agave
- Bread (Wheat is the import.)
- Canned corn (Fresh corn, too, but it’s out of season.)
- Cereal
- Cocoa
- Coffee (Oh, no!) and tea
- Dairy products — milk, cream, butter, cheese, milk powder, ice cream, buttermilk, yogurt, and kephir
