One of the legends of the game at this point, there’s no doubt that Jim Gaffigan could’ve taken 2020 as a gap year, phoned it in for a view voiceovers, and called it a day. Gaffigan, apparently, had other plans. Since the start of 2020, Jim Gaffigan has released one special, “The Pale Tourist”, written and recorded a segment for CBS’s flagship program, “Sunday Morning” every single week, recorded a weekly podcast, done several long-form interviews, recorded a voice acting spot for Bob’s Burgers, filmed scenes for the upcoming feature film, “Linoleum”, and has apparently done enough stand up to release ANOTHER special by the end of the year. On top of all that? Jim Gaffigan has 5 children, all of which are being schooled from his home in New York. It seems difficult to suggest that any other comedian is quite as busy as Gaffigan, in a time where people in general are less busy than ever.

It’d be one thing if Gaffigan was releasing a heap of mediocre content for his fans to pass the time, but nearly everything he’s been a part of this year has garnered rave reviews, especially his CBS Sunday Morning appearances, which have been incredibly popular on social media since he began them. His first special this year, one of very few released on Amazon Prime in the past few years, is his highest rated yet on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB. His podcast has only gained listeners since the beginning of lockdown, and unlike most, has actually sustained those listeners since things have started to reopen. His Bob’s Burgers spot has been acknowledged by many as a highlight in a show that may be on it’s last legs. It’s safe to say that in a year where just about everyone saw great disruption and uncertainty, Jim Gaffigan made the most of his opportunities, and created some for himself as well. With movies and a special on the way, it doesn’t appear that Gaffigan plans on slowing down any time soon either.
