How To Change Text Size
Changing the text size couldn’t be more easy. Here’s a step-by-step guide for both The Star Website and App!
In this article you’ll find how to:
- Change text size on The Star’s App (Mobile & Tablet)
- Change text size on Mobile for Safari & Chrome (Apple & Android)
- Change text size on Desktop for Safari & Chrome
Changing Text Size on the App
These steps apply for both our mobile & tablet app experience.
1. Select an Article
Choose any article you’d like to read on the Toronto Star news app.
2. Click on the Text Size Icon
In the upper right corner, you’ll find an Icon with two T’s right next to the ‘Share’ icon. Click here:
3. Adjust the Size
Using the scale, move up & down to increase or decrease the text size. That’s it! You should see the text change in real time as you adjust to your perfect text size.
Changing Text Size on the Web for Mobile Devices
Apple Mobile — Safari
1. Open up Safari
Safari has a text-changing function right within the browser.
2. Click on the Text Size Icon
In the upper left corner of Safari, you’ll find an icon with two A’s right in the search bar. Go ahead and tap it! A dropdown menu should appear.
3. Pick Your Selection
At the top of the menu, tap on the little ‘A’ or big ‘A’ to increase or decrease the text until you find your perfect size. You’re done! Easy right?
Apple Mobile — Chrome
1. Open up Chrome
Chrome has a text-changing function right within the browser.
2. Tap the three-dot menu icon
In the lower right corner of Chrome, you’ll find an icon with 3 dots — tap this to view all your opens.
3. Scroll down & tap Zoom Text
Once you scroll down, tap on Zoom Text located right next to the 2 A’s icon.
4. Tap on the + or —
At the top of the page, a plus (+) and minus (-) option will appear. Tap on either to increase or decrease text size.
5. Select Done
Tap on Done once you’re happy with the text size.
And you’re finished!
Other Mobile Options:
If you don’t have Safari, or are unable to use this function, you can always zoom into the screen with your fingers! Tap two fingers to the screen and move your fingers apart (or pinch them together) to zoom in and out.
Android Mobile — Chrome
1. Open up Chrome
Chrome has a text-changing function right within the browser.
2. Tap the three-dot menu icon
In the upper right corner of Chrome, you’ll find an icon with 3 dots — tap this to view all your opens.
3. Scroll down & tap Settings
4. Tap on Accessibility
5. Adjust Text Scaling
Drag the slider up or down until you’re happy with the text size.
Changing Text Size on the Web for Desktop
Google Chrome Browser — Zoom Option
- Click the Customize and control Google Chrome menu icon (three stacked dots) in the upper-right corner of the browser window
- Click on the plus (+) or minus (-) buttons to increase page zoom.
And you’re done!
Google Chrome Browser — Font Size Option
- Click the Customize and control Google Chrome menu icon (three stacked dots) in the upper-right corner of the browser window
- Navigate and click on Settings
- Click on Appearance
- Navigate to Font Size and click the dropdown menu
- Choose your perfect text size from Very Small to Very Large
You’re all set!
Safari Desktop Browser
- Open thestar.com on the Safari browser
- Click View in the upper bar at the top of the screen
- Navigate down & click on Zoom In or Zoom Out
Repeat the last two steps until you’re happy with the size.
Tip: Press and hold the Command key and the plus (+) or minus (-) key to increase or decrease the font size faster.
