Woburn, MA-based Bloom Automation is automating the pain points in the cannabis harvesting process using robotics.

The Opportunity

Currently, cannabis cultivators, suppliers and caregivers have to make significant trade-offs when they choose to trim with either conventional machines, or with human labor. Conventional machine trimmers are destructive to the product, cutting salable material from the flower, and damaging valuable trichomes. Human trimmers and ‘trim crews’ are extremely expensive at around $100 to $150 per pound. However, they offer the precision and product quality that conventional machines lack.

Solution

Bloom’s equipment combines the precision of human trimming with the efficiency of machine trimming, providing hand trimmed quality at a fraction of the cost.

Business Model

Bloom has a two-pronged business model. They will sell automated trimming as a service and will also sell the robots to those cultivators who would like to own the equipment.
