As we all know, the world is facing some tough times. What makes it even more challenging is that the best way for us to come together, is to be apart.

Many of the startups that we have profiled since starting The Buzz have really stepped up to the plate amid this challenging situation we’re facing. Thus, we will be doing some follow-ups with companies we’ve profiled in that past that have been addressing and helping with Coronavirus, along with startups that are pivoting through it.

Here we will be revisiting RiskAverse, a Boston-based company that is building an on-demand lifestyle platform to prevent and detect serious diseases.

The Problem

Roughly 40 percent of all cancers and 80 percent of all other chronic illnesses are preventable by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Even with that knowledge, the disease rate in America continues to rise. Without an early detection platform, most diseases can only be accurately diagnosed at later stages, leading to increased medical costs and decreased survival rates. In a period of time where the focus on personalized wellness is at an all-time high, a platform that is easily accessible and customizable is needed to streamline the disease prevention process.

What The Company Does

RiskAverse has developed an algorithm that generates a digital risk score to determine how at risk someone is of developing certain diseases. Here is a link to our initial profile of RiskAverse in case you missed it.

Here is what RiskAverse is doing NOW to adjust to the Coronavirus outbreak …

1. The team has developed and launched a COVID-19 risk assessment application for the general public.

2. They are in discussions to roll out the COVID-19 application with a few inner-city populations in the community, such as in shelters, nursing homes, rehab units, and guide them to be tested and triaged appropriately. This solution helps to focus the right treatment on the right people, enhancing
education around proper preventative techniques while reserving admission to the hospitals for only the highest risk individuals.

3. The team is ramping up the effort to expand partnerships. There are a lot of companies that are in similar circumstances, and they want to band together to be able to provide valuable resources to everyone to combat the spread of the pandemic and keep employees motivated to continue to address their wellbeing as efficiently as possible.

4. They have made their employee wellness platform completely free for the time being. Two pieces of the platform that have a lot of popularity right now are their employee wellness competitions that can be easily integrated into a company’s Slack channel and their daily newsletter that provides tips on how to address wellbeing through exercises, stretches, and meal ideas that can be done throughout the day in quarantine.

RiskAverse has built a strong platform designed to help everyone stay healthy, and the team is poised to help in other industries outside of healthcare. Definitely reach out if you could use their service or know someone else that could. We’re proud of the RiskAverse team for playing their part in limiting the outbreak.
