Firefly Health is building a tech-enabled, scalable primary care solution for busy people who need health care to actually work for them.

The Problem

In the current medical system, patients rely on in-person interactions with physicians in order to receive care. What this means for the majority of patients is taking a half day off of work or school to sit in a doctor’s office. Ironically, most of these visits are not serious or complex enough to require an in-person visit. Instead, doctors could be providing safe and high-quality care through video conferencing or other digital applications.

What The Company Does

Firefly Health is an innovative health care provider, giving patients access to their primary care team — however and whenever they are needed. It provides care for a variety of needs from the common cold to chronic diseases to mental health. The goal is to provide personalized patient care while eliminating pain points in the current care model such as hidden fees, hold times, unnecessary visits and more. Their model is a virtual-first, primary-care approach, offering live video appointments with a patients’ primary care physician and team for their convenience. Appointments can be made on their app and they also have a stand alone office for when an in-person visit is desired.

Revenue Model

Firefly accepts commercial insurance, with contracts with six major carriers in the Massachusetts’ market. Over time, the plan is take on more financial risk so that they can recognize the savings by guiding patients to higher value care.

Founding Team Background

Firefly was founded by Andy Ellner, MD, MSc and Jeff Greenberg, MD and MBA. Andy serves as the Firefly’s CEO and was formerly a practicing primary care physician and the founding co-director of the Harvard Medical School Center for Primary Care. Jeff is Firefly’s COO and has held several leadership positions at Brigham and Women’s Hospital including founding medical director of the digital innovation hub.

What They Need Help With

Firefly is currently looking for great software engineers, especially those interested in great front-end (react and react native) developers. Besides that, they are looking for employers who want to offer the highest quality primary care by partnering with Firefly.
