South Boston Golf Club — Is There a Golf Course in Southie?
For the times you wished there was a golf course in Southie.
The Problem
South Boston (“Southie”) is filled with residents that play golf, but there are few nearby options to play.
What The Company Does
South Boston Golf Club (SBGC) has the tagline, “For the times you wished there was a course in Southie.” SBGC started as an Instagram account in recognition of the fact that Southie is filled with golfers, but has nowhere for them to play. It has since developed into a an e-commerce merchandise and apparel brand built on these principals.
Business Model
SBGC’s online pro shop is built on top of Tee Commerce, another Storied company. All merchandise is decorated and shipped on-demand, which means there is no upfront investment in inventory for SBGC.
Traction
Caught in Southie recently did a write-up on SBGC. After launching a new version of its online pro shop in November, SBGC has seen a big spike in sales for the holidays. This included some experimentation with some limited edition holiday logos for the season.
Founding Team Background
Jeff Piltch and Rory O’Donnell started SBGC in 2020 as two friends and golfers living in Southie. Jeff is Head of Growth at Tee Commerce and co-founder of Storied. Rory runs operations for Red’s Best, a seafood distributor in the Seaport.
