The Problem

In today’s age, people are always looking for an edge in their training. What can they be doing more of? How can they be more like a pro? How do you find the right personal trainer for the event you are training for? At the same time, many professional athletes struggle to make ends meet, while trying to build a brand in personal training. Established athletic governing bodies only support the best and the proven, leaving many pro athletes without help.

What The Company Does

Tagalong offers the personal training from professional athletes in a variety of formats including in-person, virtual, or phone call sessions. The training plans are customizable and can be tailor-made to suit each individual’s goals. By connecting with professional athletes, Tagalong enables trainees the opportunity to ask questions on training, nutrition, injury, racing, etc. The Pros get to connect with fans/competitive athletes while making money for their knowledge and skill-set.

The Market

The personal training industry is about $12 billion with about 57 million Americans owning a gym membership. Tagalong already offers access to some of the best athletes in the world who are excited to have the opportunity to share their experiences with subscribers.

The Business Model

Tagalong currently serves as a management platform that handles the scheduling, payment and communication for athletes and pros. In return, Tagalong receives 15% of the session fee.

Traction

Tagalong started generating revenue in June 2019. Currently, 60 pro athletes are part of the company’s network across six different sports in over 16 markets. Tagalong recently participated in an Inspiralia “Get in the Ring Miami” pitching competition, placing 4th out of 20 companies.

Founding Team Background

CEO and Co-Founder Nick Karwoski was a professional triathlete from 2013 to 2016 and was the 9th ranked American in 2016. He worked at NBC, had a company receive $300k from Mark Cuban on Shark Tank in 2012 and has worked with other fitness related startups.

Luis Oda, co-founder and COO, has worked in consumer licensing at NBC for more than six years. He has a great understanding of market research and the premium product that Tagalong can be.

Scott Del Vecchio serves as CMO and has worked in the startup world prior to Tagalong, currently leading their marketing and media footprint. He was a professional rower for more than three years as well.

Sharon Marotta as CSO has over 20 years of experience in business development, client management and has a license to practice law in three states. She leads the strategic initiatives of the team and offers great insight as a parent and competitive athlete.

What They Need Help With

Tagalong needs help in reaching potential customers. To this point Tagalong has been bootstrapped, but is now looking for funding to grow marketing/advertising as well as develop an android compatible app. The company is also looking to hire a CTO. Connect with the Tagalong team here.
