Pop Quiz, Monday with Tara Troy. M.D., Founder at Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Health, LLC
The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.
I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.
- Can you please tell everyone your name?
Tara Troy. M.D.
2. Tell us about your business and what you do?
I am a gastroenterologist and founder of Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Health, LLC. We are a new style of gastroenterology practice and endoscopy center located in Northbrook focused on a truly comprehensive approach to achieve a patient’s best digestive health and overall well-being.
3. Why did you want to become an entrepreneur?
The trend for healthcare is creating larger and larger organizations with unfortunate accompanying bureaucracy and reduced personal touch. I wanted a smaller and more intimate setting for both providers and patients to achieve meaningful progress in a more pleasant environment.
4. What are the challenging aspects of running a business?
Learning new languages of aspects of business that I have no experience in — billing, accounting, IT, website maintenance, etc.
5. What do you love most about your job?
Control. Knowing that if there is a problem, I can analyze it, choose how to the correct course, and then implement that correction immediately.
6. How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We have gotten the chance to relax, enjoy, and get to know one another’s family and friends at Open Houses at the practice. Tracking memorable quotes and situations in our break room — funny stuff happens all the time, it’s fun to look back on those moments during a harried day.
7. What would one piece of advice that you give to a new business owner?
Go with your gut instinct. I’ve ignored my gut when choosing vendors in favor of better pricing. I should have listened to my gut…
