What are the “Soft Skills”?
First of all we need to clearly understand what these “Soft Skills” are.
You may already heard that hard skills will get you an interview but you need soft skills to get and keep the job. Actually organization, empathy, self-awareness, perceptiveness are few examples from a very long list of competencies that are highly sought after by recruiters nowadays. So soft skills also called “people skills” characterize relationships with other people and the way you approach life and work.
How to improve them?
Once you identified the skills that you want to develop, start working!
There exist many possibilities to improve them. The first advice to follow would be to make the most of your University experience. It means get enrolled in extracurricular activities, participate to the political and cultural life on your campus and do not hesitate to accept all the facultative works. In a study carried out in 15 countries, the World Economic Forum has identified the skills that are essential to possess in 2020. The graphic created by Re.sources, the DataLab of the Dutch multinational firm Randstad, gives us the top 10 soft skills that employers will be looking for:

1 Complex problem solving: The process of working through details of a problem to reach a solution.
2 Critical thinking: Making reasoned judgments that are logical and well-thought out. It is a way of thinking in which you don’t simply accept all arguments and conclusions you are exposed to but rather have an attitude involving questioning such arguments and conclusions
3 Creativity: Mental characteristic that allows a person to think outside of the box, which results in innovative or different approaches to a particular task.
4 Management skills: Having the capacity to run a business. It’s being able to make the right choices while managing the overall performance of the company.
5 Coordination: The unification, integration, synchronization of the efforts of group members so as to provide unity of action in the pursuit of common goals. It is a hidden force which binds all the other functions of management
6 Emotional Intelligence: The ability to recognize your emotions, understand what they’re telling you, and realize how your emotions affect people around you. It also involves your perception of others: when you understand how they feel, this allows you to manage relationships more effectively.
7 Judgement and decision-making: The thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available options. For effective decision making, a person must be able to forecast the outcome of each option as well, and based on all these items, determine which option is the best for that particular situation.
8 Customer Focus: Having a customer focus usually includes maintaining an effective customer relations and service program.
9 Negotiation: Method by which people settle differences. It is a process by which compromise or agreement is reached while avoiding argument and dispute.
10 Cognitive Flexibility: the brain’s ability to transition from thinking about one concept to another. The quicker you are able to switch or “shift” your thinking from one dimension to another, the greater your level of cognitive flexibility
