How I see the platform altogether and what it did for me

Little known fact about me, I dreamed of becoming a screenwriter when i was in high school.

iIwas dead serious about it, and grew up like the geeky film kid, though my genre and go-to-movies were Horror and psychic thrillers. I loved how Hitchcock controlled his audience by titilating them between which character to love and who is the hero, that was what i wanted to achieve — write the story that will move people.

I even studied screenwriting for film and TV, but after that realized tech is more jam.

Writing is Sharing

You can write everywhere you want, but depends on why you write in the first place, you choose your platform. And dont get me wrong, ANY reason to write is legit — in the eye of the beholder — so i look at the platform of choice to get the intent behind the reason to share.

Sharing is the original purpose of text and writings

You see, to me, it is very clear what is supposed to be shared in each channel, meaning text, images, videos, personal stories, etc. but no one is above the measurability of the likes.

the internet is measurable, and the companies providing the services we use to share are designed that way so its clear what they encourage us to share, but then there is effort.

A Good example will be how i choose which YouTube channel to subscribe too, it’s about style. The style in which the content producer decides to share it is what makes it stick for me. Some are Boooooooring, and some just stretch the length of the video for no good reason. That’s me, and that’s video, but each and every one of us has taste of course, and that taste, helps me decide what content makes me want to know more.

Writing for Me

As someone who wanted to be a screenwriter, i figured writing did good for me when i actually set down and wrote — even with half of it looking like sh!t a couple of days after.

So i started writing again, just for me.
I knew when i was about 80% finished with a post, that soon real people will read it, sometimes it made me second guess the post, and at times the whole idea of writing and sharing.

I Don’t Write For You

I write for me. i love to share knowledge and i challenge anyone who claims ‘Knowledge is power’ — not it’s not, only when you put knowledge to use when it becomes power, and guess who’s ALWAYS holding that power? people.

when i say i write for me, i mean i am a person who believes knowledge should be shared and spread and never kept, so when i write it’s full of intent — the intent of sharing my thoughts, processes, stories, experience and most of all, me.

So far about writing, now let’s talk about the other side

what do we write for? so it can read.
And this is what brought me to use Medium and tailor it’s hard earned cash and R&D about sharing knowledge — to my personal needs.

My Personal Needs

i wont get to much into it, it’s a very personal process that i have been doing for the past 2.5 years with 3 professionals, but one thing i learned was how neurological connections in our brains work.

It’s simple really —
If our brains are like a computer, then RAM is what i’m referring to. We have quick access for information retrieval when our brains need it. So what did we do in my personal process, we came up with ways to strengthen essential and productive information retrievals, one of the ways to achieve this is to dive into specific topics and always train your brain on the methodology of how and what to do to change and improve yourself.

Reading on Medium

I read certain topics on Medium, yet i try not to leave too much trail of what i do (done follow that too many publications, mostly people), and mainly trust the Medium Staff to analyze how much time i’m spending on which articles and draw those conclusions on what i like. It’s basic machine learning, and i know they’re doing something of that sort. Well, i believe, i can’t know for sure as i dont know anyone who works for Medium, but i figured as much because of the topics and digests i get from them and Pocket (which is the best when you combine it with the Medium app.

Remember intent? Writer’s intent

As i mentioned above, while you can share your stories everywhere, it’s about intent. I myself, realized (my taste for what content makes me stick), that the people writing on Medium have their agenda pretty much aligned with my owns when it comes to knowledge sharing and why they chose this platform— that intent is important to keep in mind when choosing which content gets your most precious valuable resources — TIME.

My readings on Medium like this brilliant post by Becky Kane (that i have bookmarked just so it’ll be in front of me all day as a reminder), are on specific topics i choose to improve upon, you know stuff like productivity and habit-forming and tenacity and entrepreneurship — topics i know i’ll never stop learning forever.

Repetitive Messages, Conceptual Training

In my personal process, we focus on how to create better versions of oneself, and how to strengthen my core virtues, it turns out — you can change almost everything about yourself.

Don’t look for complicated techniques, the only technique required is tenacity and perseverance, it’s simple really, repeat messages daily to make changes happen in your life.

You’ve heard about Mantras? pretty much the same connect, but when you want to really program very very specific habits or thoughts, you need to know how to act on them changes or habits.

So, let’s sum up a bit.
1. i can identify with the writers on Medium, sharing their knowledge on the topics i chose to follow — because i can sympathize with their Intent
2. Medium is working very hard on analyzing what i read and how to better my experience
3. i need repetitive messages on topics i need to improve or learn more about

The last thing that is need to complete the picture is Concept.

By concept i mean sharing the same idea but with a different approach and angle or point of view on the matter. want a good example? think about how many articles like “6 ways for form habits” “This is why habits…” “Do this in order to form habits” these can look the same for most people and they wont be wrong, but the idea is to combine all 3 points i wrote above and add the notion of the same message, different concept.

That’s how i use Medium. I use Medium’s writer’s intent on specific topics to always train my brain to deal with new habits, changes, and all sorts of things i want to be or try to be.
