Jet lag has always been a problem for me. Most people feel tired for a few days and get over it. Me? It takes about 2–3 weeks to feel completely normal again. During this period, I need to deal with a bad appetite, nausea, and disrupted sleep patterns. I usually feel like a zombie.

Lack of sleep also translates to a general feeling of weakness and brain fog. I have a lot of trouble getting through my daily routine because I have to take a nap or I’m just thinking too slowly. To be honest, it’s super annoying. I also lose 5–10 pounds from jet lag because I can’t eat well. It’s funny though, I don’t typically suffer from jet lag when I arrive at my destination. It’s usually when I get back home. I suppose I’m feeling super excited at the beginning, so I don’t feel it as much.

I haven’t found the perfect way to get over jet lag, but here are 6 things I do to try to make the process a bit easier.

1 — I try to get as much rest as possible upon arriving home. I’ll take naps or just close my eyes for a little while if I have to.

2 — Staying hydrated is super important all the time, even if I’m not suffering from jet lag. I’ll chug as much water as I can.
