The Cage

She who yearned freedom

Shrilled from the cage in the dark

A cage of opinions, expectations

one rooted deep inside her soul

Her voice was painful, deafening

As if sky wailing with a storm.

She ran inside the boundary

Distraught in search of open space

An opening to slip out and race

Her fingers numb from the cold metal

hurried through the gaps,

She would squeeze herself out

Breathe forever in the openness

No longer will the bars stand

in her paths, none will restrict

for she will claim it all.

It was all a distant dream,

She had let the cage be built

Cornered herself in the darkness

If only she could slip or slide

through the scary bars

if she could glide, ask for help

But all she could see was emptiness.

If only she could see

that a little strength and belief

Could be the key

If only she could see

that looking inside her own self

Could let her be, set her free

If only she could see.
