Alternative Human Evolution Query

by Susan G Holland

What if?

We humans, as far as science has understood it, grew (however we might have originated) on the outside surface of a planet.

We walked outside the earth’s shell under the rain and sun and clouds. We breathed oxygen and ate what grew at our feet, pushed up by the fertile earth and kept alive by the sun.

WHAT IF…we had originated on the inside of the globe — inside a sort of bubble at the center of which was some pretty hot stuff, like lava, for instance?

And what if it got very crowded in there, so everyone’s head was toward the hot stuff and our feet toward the inside of the bubble ?

Would we grow very tall with small heads, shrunk, maybe, from the heat?
Would we have developed big feet by virtue of centrifugal force against the inside of the shell of earth’s “skin”?

Or would we have evolved into squat little creatures that huddled toward the cooler outside of the bubble hiding our heads from the furious heat? Like worms, maybe?

Would the earth’s rotation change according to how much walking we would do?

And what would our life be focused on? What would we aspire to or hope for?

These are just the kinds of what-if’s that come to mind when contemplating the strange story of humankind and its presence on the face of this planet.

These are the thoughts this writer is thinking while happily held by gravity to the face of the OUTSIDE of the planet with my head up in the breathable air, hoping it will stay that way. Appreciating that I am not in another reality.
