Mr Peepers, maybe? 1950’s TV?

Back then
on the black and white screen
some evenings
Mr. Peepers was on
and his friend Mrs. Gurney.

Mrs. Gurney was —
well, a little forgetful. A senior citizen. Well, an Old Lady!
Full of spirit though.
She was so full of good will! And words!

She mentored the new science teacher, very willingly!
Mr. Peepers was such a nice young man.

Remember how Mrs. Gurney often
babbled? I mean, she started a sentence
with such good intentions. And somewhere in the middle
she would babble syllables and somehow quickly strain her brain to
cobble together an end to her sentence that was “good enough” for her
but totally unrelated to anything said before.

She would make a “never-mind-gesture” with her hand and touch
her triple-strand pearl necklace that covered her slightly withered neck.
And add a gracious finish-line before mincing out of the picture, maybe pinching Mr. Peepers’ cheek.

With grace! Charming grace and good will.

When I sound like Mrs. Gurney, and I do sometimes, I remember quite well
that Mr. Peepers always held her in high esteem. He was such a love!

Esteem…even when he was totally bamboozled by what it all was supposed to mean!

Mr. Peepers was SUCH a nice young man.
I wonder what kind of old man he became?
