It’s Time

I found myself waiting, just waiting — for what, I knew not. I was down by the waterside, with nothing in particular on my mind. Everything seemed different, nothing was familiar, and I felt lost. Aside from occasional moments of alienation, I was O.K. with this feeling. It was just a feeling, after all. I know about connection and the universe and I trust it all, even when I am not feeling it.

This must be one of those transitional times, thought I. It’s O.K. Sometimes, you must get lost before you can be found. When you’ve been lost enough times, and eventually are found, you come to trust this — even when you don’t feel it. I definitely wasn’t feeling it.

So, I waited. I watched the water. I felt the wind blowing, blowing cold and crisp. I waited for minutes — then hours — then days, I waited. Sometimes, it’s just like that.

Then, after many days, I heard a sound off in the distance. A distinct sound. It wasn’t the sound of being found. It was the sound of a call — a call to action. I heard it clearly. It sounded distantly familiar — I’d heard that call before — and, yet it was brand new. There was a sense of urgency, an immediacy, to this call.

I didn’t know how, but I knew what I would have to do. It only takes one step in that direction.

Just a step.

Then, another.

No longer lost, yet not found, either — it’s simply time to begin moving forward, one step in front of the other, to where we will be. The time for waiting is almost over. It’s time to change the world.

We can do it.

Connecting the dots. Storytelling helps me to make sense of this world, and of my life. I love writing and reading. Writing is like breathing, for me.
