the lines we draw around
ourselves, to define ourselves
how much of a handhold are they really
how much a personal space, a safety bubble

when do they turn
into cages, cloistered dark places
where we store old fears and the whisps of dreams
ever hesitant to step into the light

lest we miss the momentum
of the world welcoming us
and end up wrecked and tangled
in even more lines than we started out with
