One of my morning readings yesterday suggested going on a 7 day mental diet. I’ve done this before — probably a year ago, when I last read the same entry from the same book. It really helps, especially if I find myself being drawn to negative energy, which I sometimes do. If you live in this world, it is impossible not to.

The idea is, to not dwell in that energy, or entertain those thoughts. Let the negative thoughts or emotions come, as they will, but just thank them and bless them on their way. Then, focus on something positive. Easy, right? I can’t speak for you, but for me, it is not. It takes a serious effort. But, I’ve found that it’s well worth the effort. It has been in the past, and I know it will be, again.

As today’s reading states, which continues yesterday’s theme, “thought is the real causative force in life…you cannot have one kind of mind and another kind of environment. You cannot change your environment while leaving your mind unchanged….if you change your mind your conditions must change too — your body must change, your activities must change, your home must change, the color-tone of your whole life must change.”

The reading concludes with, “The way to start on a seven-day mental diet is to begin now.” (This reading is today’s reading from “Around the Year with Emmet Fox”) .

So, today I begin my 7-Day Mental Diet. I’m not big on food diets, but mental diets rock. The timing’s good, too — a great way to shed any negativity from 2017, and instead of it carrying over into the next year, a chance to begin 2018 on a positive note, with the first two days of the year being Days 6 and 7 of the Mental Diet.

It may seem or sound silly, but I’ve being doing things like this, and practicing intentions (listing what I want in my life going forward) and denials (listing what I no longer want in my life), for 25 years now, ever since we took a workshop on this stuff, back in 1992.

At that time, our financial situation was a disaster, we loved to travel but never did, hadn’t taken a real vacation in 8 years, and were living a life of quiet desperation. That workshop (called Abundance) was the beginning of that way of life changing for us. That’s where we learned how important one’s mental approach to life can truly be.

It takes a concerted effort to effect a change along these lines. Doing things like this 7 day mental diet have helped more than anything I can think of.

Ready….begin!
