The deepest tastes will cling to what lingers.
Grit. Memory.
We long for the glow of the moment, but irrevocably the leftovers cool down. Tired and soaked, they find themselves fuller than they were, somewhat like we do, hoisting ourselves out of the bathtub, wrapping a towel around our bodies and perching on the edge for a while.
But there always comes a time when the cold seeps through the fabric and the only possible option left is drying yourself.
Grit is something we get rid of. We know that from the outset. It doesn’t stop us from drinking.
Gluttonous as we are, we shamelessly long for more.
The SAPLING series is a joint project with artist and illustrator Jurgen Walschot.
Saplings are creative sprouts. I will write to the images, he will draw to the words.
