There is an old Portuguese proverb: If shit had the price of gold, then God would have made sure the poor were born without arse-holes. Imagine a world where everybody was swimming in money. Who would feel rich then? Being rich is not a state which exists on its own. You are only rich if people around you are poor. Which explains why there are so many strategies like zero hour, minimum wage and similar approaches to the workforce_ incidentally the very people who create wealth. The people at the work face create wealth, but it’s those in the office who collect it.

A not altogether unrelated paradigm is provided by the umbrella. One person with one umbrella walking in the rain can stay dry, as the water pours around them, but if everybody had an umbrella, where would the precipitation go? Everybody gets wet.
