Seattle boating scene overshadowed by Mt. Rainier

Of course the Puget Sound is very watery, and where there is water, there are boats.

Today is the Grand Opening of Boating Season when traffic gets stalled in the University District (UW) while the Montlake Bridge, a drawbridge, gets held open while the boats which have wintered over in Lake Washington move in a festive parade over into the waters of the Puget Sound.

Today it is happening for this season. The weather could not be more perfect — clear and sunny and warm so that people will line up on the banks of the Montlake Cut to watch, and in boats lined up rail to rail with much partying and sunbathing going on.

All flags flying. One of the beloved traditions of this Northwest section of the USA where giant snow clad mountains look at stretches of beautiful waters.

Just a screen shot of some of the many images to be found on Google.

Some folks will be going to bed with sunburns tonight!
