Puffin Island
Bass Rock
is probably the best-known island in the Firth of Forth. It is a magnet for tourists as it is barely half an hour from my city of Edinburgh. It is home to 150,000 gannets and a large number of puffins, to say nothing of seals. In North Berwick which faces the island there is a Bird Centre and a port from where one can join boat tours round the island. When the sun is shining this can be an unforgettable experience.
Puffins are probably the most cherished birds of Scotland. I for one cannot understand the dexterity and speed which enable them to catch so many sand eels in one attempt.
