SAPLING #57 Promise
We turn the page of so many days.
The memories made, precious and carried to term, can now slowly fade to black-and-white, condensed silhouettes in the morning dusk we are leaving behind.
The sun announces its arrival along lines of light spreading across the horizon. The wet grass feels prickly underfoot. All is sharp and clear on a morning like this, as if the soil itself is breathing and fuming gently, easing itself free with every new call of blackbird, finch and starling.
That which lies here, stretching out before us, bears a promise of warmer days. We can smell the scents of herbs on the air, and feel how our lungs fill up with something that feels like budding at every breath.
Sunlight is piercing the spaces in between the branches. If we close our eyes, all we love is clad in a deeper glow.
The SAPLING series is a joint project with artist and illustrator Jurgen Walschot.
Saplings are creative sprouts. I will write to the images, he will draw to the words.
