Which of these two countries is more qualified to bear the torch of democracy?

Jamal Kashoggi is/ was a Saudi journalist who wrote a regular column in The Washington Post. He was arranging to get married to his Turkish fiancée, and found himself in Istanbul. He was last seen entering the door of his country’s embassy in the Turkish capital. The Turkish government (another candidate for that torch?) has expressed the belief that he is no longer alive.

In China Meng Hongwei used to be a high-powered member of the People’s Republic Security forces. Eyebrows were raised when Interpol invited him to join it, but he appeared to have done well and rose to the rank of president of that famous organisation. On a visit to his motherland, he too has disappeared, and rumours are flying.
