The daughter of Demeter
She has arrived.
At last.
Persephone, daughter of Demeter.
During the months she spends with Hades in the underworld, her mother Demeter is pale with sorrow. Trees shed their leaves, all is barren. Only when Persephone resurfaces to join her mother above ground for the other half of the year, Demeter rejoices and nature buds and blooms.
Persephone lingered with Hades longer than usual this year. Intense and interesting things can be learned in the underworld, that much is certain. It’s no good enjoying the fruit if you don’t know what soil it came from.
But now, finally, she has arrived.
After longs months of waiting, the cold that gnawed our bones and hollowed our happiness and our resilience has lifted its bane.
Carefully, hesitantly, we turn our heads to the sun. And we dare to hope for longer light, joy, and a slow dream unfolding.
