“We didn’t find anything, Mr. Bailey! “ I bet the expression on my face was correctly interpreted — Really, you had the car in diagnostics for a F’n hour and a half and you found nothing? “But, we washed and vacuumed it!” This time I said it, “That was an expensive wash!”

Nothing wrong? Here’s what happened last night while returning to the house after basketball practice.

Turning left onto route 117 from 112 isn’t a difficult task during the day, but at night, it is challenging. At nightfall, the perfect storm arises; firstly, the intersection is located in a trough with the gradient of route 112 rising sharply on either side. Secondly, The positioning of the street lamp inhibits good visibility. Thirdly, the wide mouth to 117 encourages turning early by cutting across two oncoming lanes, and that is problematic. I have driven this route enough to make adjustments.

Now last night, after my car received a conditional pass from the dealership, expressed as, we could not duplicate what happened; I complained about my lights suddenly dropping from high beam to low beam, but last night, all my lights went out, the headlights and dashboard, a now you see the environment and now you don’t, as I turned off 112 and committed to the turn onto 117.

I did what any of you would do by recognizing that the ambient light from the Saco/Biddeford area allowed me to just barely see the white line bordering the edge of the road. In the next nanosecond, I determined that the multi-switch was inactive then immediate found the dash light switch and restored the lights. Maybe two seconds had elapsed and in that time while diagnosing the problem on the fly, I navigated around a seventy-degree corner in the dark. So, I ask myself again, what the FUDGE is going on at FLEE dealership.

This morning my mechanic and I went over what happened and determined that the headlight switch is responsible. I order the part for $65 bucks and here’s the kicker, I can install it myself. It has been 40 years since I visited a dealership and I have confirmed why.
