Today’s Gift

It would have been a celebration

of twenty years.

There would have been red roses as always,

But, he isn’t,

and roses aren’t

but I am.

Nevertheless,

I find a gift awaiting my return home.

A kaleidoscope of fritillary butterflies

at least 3–4 dozen fluttering all about.

And I smile, knowing .
