rising from the landscape, breaching
the surface of soil, moisture and moss.
Their stories are told in the tongues
of ice, carrying the weight of ages
and the memories of earth’s hot breath.
How they hold us as the snows come
and go, bedrock to lives and homes,
keepers of a slowly whispered wisdom.
In their silence they speak of powers
we can only dream to weather.
