You would agree that holding your breath for more than a minute is no walk in the park, how much more holding it for more than 24 minutes? On 27 March 2021, a man named Budimir Sobat, a 56-year-old freediver, did the impossible when he broke the world record for The longest time breath held voluntarily (male).

Budimir Sobat, the the 56 years old man with an autistic daughter, decided to register for the Guinness Book of records after just three years of experience in freediving to help raise awareness for Autism. Before Budimir Sobat’s record-breaking title, there was Aleix Segura a Barcelonian-born freediver who broke the record on 28 February 2016 in Spain by 24 minutes and 3.45 seconds. In 2021, Budimir Sobat decided to challenge Aleix Segura’s record in Sisak, Croatia to help promote the city and raise funds for people affected by the devastating earthquake that hit the city in December 2020.

Although Budimir had only started freediving a couple of years back when he was 53 years old, he was determined to compete as he knew the platform would also give him a chance to talk on autism — as the father to a 21 year old autistic girl. Training was quite challenging for him due…
