Move Your Domain to Medium

Medium is becoming the default place to tell your story on the internet, a place where quality wins and your thoughts and ideas become richer through the participation of the audience. Over a million people have already brought their words to Medium, and today we take an important step in making Medium a home for millions more. We are moving beyond our test group and making custom domains on Medium available to anyone.

Earlier today we announced that writers all over the web can publish to Medium more easily than ever using our new API. But for those who want to make Medium their permanent home, we have partnered with Namecheap to automate the process of moving your domain with only a few clicks.

Among the many reasons you should move to Medium:

Audience

Readers return to Medium every day, seeking out the most original and forward-thinking writing on the internet. With our tag, follow, and @mention features, you will see your audience grow. This increases the chances of new readers discovering your posts.

Network

When people follow your publication on Medium, they receive notifications whenever you publish a new post. When they engage with your post, their followers are notified in the same manner, via daily email digests and mobile push notifications and in their personalized homepage feed.

Cost

There is no longer any need to spend money hosting your words on an isolated website. Medium is a free, well-designed, and powerful platform upon which to build your online presence.

Control

You own your content, in your own space, on a deeply connected network. You’re more likely to reach the right audience and engage them as true participants, moving discourse forward through conversation.

If you’d like to see how others are using their domains, here’s a list of some of the domains on Medium so far. Here are the technical details about how to set up your DNS records.

Setting up your domain is simple

  1. Acquire a domain. We suggest using Namecheap, but you can use any registrar.
  2. Create a Medium publication.
  3. Send an email to [email protected] with “Custom Domain” as the subject and include the URL of your domain (or subdomain) and the URL of the Medium Publication (not your Medium profile) to map to. Also let us know which registrar you use so we can tailor our instructions a bit, as some registrars are slightly different than others.
  4. We’ll send you A records and a CNAME record along with detailed instructions.
  5. Add the records to your domain and you’re done!

You have questions, we have answers

Can I have a custom domain for my Medium profile?

We don’t currently have plans to extend custom domain support to profiles.

Is there a way for me to bulk import an archive from my site?

Not yet. We will have this option available in the coming months, so stay tuned. If you’d like to be notified when this feature is available, please fill out this form.

Can I redirect URLs from older posts from my site?

Yes. Learn how here.

Will I be able to use Google Analytics with my domain on Medium?
